We're currently in our research phase, learning what keeps people stuck, what liberation movements need to reach more people, and how to support content creators in mobilizing their audiences. Eventually, we'll create campaigns that help grassroots organizations get seen by the people who need them most.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Unlike NPR (which accepts corporate funding), Pacifica stations are 100% listener-funded community radio that's been broadcasting radical, uncensored voices since 1949. These five stations (KPFA Berkeley, KPFK Los Angeles, KPFT Houston, WBAI New York, WPFW Washington DC) each have distinct personalities and audiences.

Help us understand Pacifica's diverse landscape! Each station has different vibes, content styles, and communities. We need fresh ears to help us understand which shows and stations might resonate most with people seeking liberation-centered alternatives to mainstream media.

• Listen across different Pacifica stations for 1+ hours per week via web streaming while working, commuting, walking, cooking, whatever fits your life
• Share your authentic reactions - Which shows draw you in? What resonates with your values? Which content feels most relevant for people wanting alternatives to corporate media?
• Help us understand each station's personality - KPFK shaped our founder's liberation journey, but we're curious about the unique character and audiences of all five stations
• Identify what clicks - Which shows/stations would best serve people wanting to reduce screen time while staying engaged with radical voices and community perspectives? </aside>

TIME & COMMITMENT

Team: Community Research Team

This team helps EU understand what resources already exist in liberation spaces and how we can better connect system-weary people to alternatives that serve their needs. They explore everything from mutual aid networks to alternative media to find partnership opportunities and content that resonates with people.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Pacifica radio stations have been around since the 1960s. They talk about things corporate media won't touch: racism, war, workers' rights, and how to build better communities. They also play music you won't hear on mainstream radio: independent artists, global sounds, protest music, and genres that corporate stations ignore.

These stations run on listener donations. No corporations give them money. That means they can tell the truth without worrying about losing sponsors.
