BUILDING SHARED UNDERSTANDING

We're building this collection based on community research and organizing experience to create shared understanding across movements. This isn't complete, and we're learning as we go. Language evolves as movements grow and deepen their understanding.

WHY TERMINOLOGY MATTERS

Words carry power. The language we use shapes how we understand problems and envision solutions. Mainstream definitions often reflect the perspectives of dominant institutions rather than liberation movements.

By centering language from grassroots organizing and frontline communities, we help people understand liberation concepts as movements actually use them. This builds shared understanding across different organizing spaces and helps people connect with the work happening in their communities.
